Trust you can read.
No app can promise who a person is. We tell you exactly what was checked, by whom and when, we keep reviews honest, and we give everyone a private way to speak up. Your judgment does the rest.
Every badge, dated.
Badges say what was checked, who checked it and when. Background checks renew every year, and an expired check stops showing.
- PhoneChecked by NannyWhen: At sign upA one-time code confirms a real, reachable number.
- IDChecked by Stripe IdentityWhen: At sign up, shown with the dateA government ID and a selfie are checked by Stripe. We keep the result and the date, never the images.
- Background checkChecked by CheckrWhen: Renews every yearCaregivers order their own check with FCRA disclosure and consent. Parents see “Cleared on” and the date, never the report.
- CPR and first aidChecked by Nanny reviewWhen: Until the certificate expiresThe caregiver uploads the certificate. We check the name and the expiry date before the badge shows.
- ReferencesChecked by Nanny reviewWhen: Dated when confirmedAt least two references, each contacted and confirmed before the badge shows.
- Driving recordChecked by Checkr, optionalWhen: Renews every yearFor caregivers who drive kids. Shown only if the caregiver chooses to run it.
How background checks work, in plain words
- 01The caregiver starts the check from their profile and reads Checkr's FCRA disclosure.
- 02They give written consent and their details go to Checkr, not to families.
- 03Checkr runs the check and handles any dispute or adverse action notice with the caregiver.
- 04Families see “Cleared on” and the date. Never the report.
Written into the product, not a policy page.
Reviews from real bookings only
- Only a completed, paid booking can be reviewed, once per side, within 14 days.
- Double blind: both reviews publish together, or when the window closes.
- Structured: punctual, communication, kids' wellbeing, would rebook, plus your words.
- The person reviewed can reply once, in public. Disputes go to a person, not a bot.
- Removed only for breaking policy. Never for being negative, never for a fee.
Kids' information is need to know
- Before booking, caregivers see kids' ages, never names or photos, and your neighborhood, never your address.
- Allergies, medications, conditions and emergency contacts are visible only during an active booking with that child.
- Kids' photos are optional, private, stripped of location data and never searchable.
- Medical fields are encrypted in our database, on top of encryption at rest.
Location on shift, never off it
- Read once at clock-in, during a booked shift, to confirm arrival at the family's home.
- Only with the caregiver's consent and a state notice. No background tracking.
- If GPS is poor, the caregiver clocks in manually with a reason, and the family sees that.
Reports are private and handled by people
- Report and block on every profile, message, review and post.
- Reports go to our Trust and Safety team and are never published.
- Urgent reports, like a child's safety or a threat, pause the account while we review.
- Concerns about a named caregiver's conduct never go on a public feed. Circles routes them to a private report.
No labels on people
- No red flags, risk scores, safety scores or AI summaries about any person.
- No search by a caregiver's name or photo, and no feeds for comparing notes on people.
- Matching ranks on fit: schedule, distance, rate, experience, reliability and needs. Never looks.
Data we refuse to keep
- We never store ID or selfie images. Stripe Identity keeps them; we keep the result and the date.
- No public storage. Files use links that expire in minutes, and every table is locked to its owner.
- Messages are encrypted at rest and staff access is audited.
- We do not sell data, run ads or use cross-app tracking.
Chat and payments, scam aware.
- No messages before both sides are interested, which shuts out cold scams.
- Chat warns about common scams: gift cards, overpayment checks and paying outside the app.
- Bookings are paid through Stripe, so nobody needs to share bank details in a message.
About nanny cams.
You can connect cameras you already own and see them next to the shift. If you do, tell your caregiver before they start. The law differs by state, but a good rule everywhere: video in common areas only, no audio in states that require everyone's consent, and never in a bathroom or a live-in caregiver's room.
Report a concern.
In the app, tap the three dots on any profile, message, review or post and choose Report. It goes to our Trust and Safety team, privately. The person is not told who reported them. If you cannot use the app, email safety@joinnanny.com.
